The JSQ Foundation Board of Directors is very cognizant that many young children would do far better in school if they had even one special adult in their lives who could help support them in their school environment - to assist with homework, enhance communication skills, support them individually and socially, talk with them or just listen.

Consequently, the JSQ Foundation has initiated a Mentor Recruiting Program to help identify and attract capable and willing volunteers to assist young children who need the one-on-one attention that mentoring can provide for them. The Foundation’s function is to be the network that identifies and connects those potential mentors to the school that needs mentors. Many children could benefit from the additional support during the school day if they could receive it from a trusted, consistent, and committed ally. The Foundation looks for members of the local community and/or local college students to serve as mentors to these young children.

Collaborating schools conduct their clearance process that is required by law for all volunteers who want to work with children, including a Cori check. All decisions regarding the matching up of mentors and the young children who will receive mentoring services rests with the school’s designated staff member.
