children reading

Getting new books into the hands of children is directly promoting personal literacy and self esteem by lending support to the learning environments of children. This program was designed not only to get books into the hands of children, but to promote pride in the ownership of books, and pride in their ability to read and learn from them. Several times a year, the Foundation finds individual or corporate sponsors to donate books for children in the first four grade levels (K, 1, 2 and 3).

The Foundation sponsors and invites children and parents to a Bedtime Story Hour at the school. Volunteer readers read several stories to the children that attend. They then give each child at least one book to take home with them to start their own collections. Refreshments are served and children connect reading with a new and positive learning experience.
